Tim
Church is a Southern Oregon-based guitarist offering virtuosity,
versatility, and variety to local venues and audiences. His styles
encompass all
aspects of classical, jazz, American songbook,
blues, popular, Spanish, and Brazilian, focusing on traditional/public
domain songs
and including original music.
Tim has been playing guitar for exactly fifty years. He began by playing rock, influenced by the Beatles and the blues of the time. After seeing Jose Feliciano and classical guitarists on TV a few years later, he changed directions, learning acoustic fingerstyle guitar. "Guitar is expressive on so many levels and is very intimate," Tim says. His performances are very accessible: in the Rogue Valley he currently performs at Standing Stone Brewery (solo guitar, Saturday evenings), Martino's (with the Paul Schmeling jazz ensemble on Monday nights), Gallerie Karon, and has played stints at the Jacksonville Inn, Rogue Valley Country Club, Chateaulin, Amuse, Quinz, Avalon, Primavera, and various wineries in the area. Tim has played in local rock bands, blues bands, a western swing band, a Gypsy swing band, a Klezmer band, duos, trios, but mostly performs solo. He has been teaching guitar locally for over thirty years. |
